About Young People

What can I expect in counselling?

You might be facing challenges, perhaps at home or school, which just feel too much for you at the moment. Coming to see one of us in the safe space of our counselling room lets you talk about how you feel. We can work together to help you find ways of coping when things go wrong and build your resilience to help you as you enter adulthood.

How can counselling help me?

Many of the young people we have counselled have felt a huge weight lifted off their shoulders after talking to us about their problems. By talking to someone outside of their home or school/college environment made them realise that their feelings were normal and that they wouldn’t always feel trapped in this cycle of anger or sadness or other negative feelings.

How do I know if my problems are bad enough to have counselling?

If you are struggling we are there to listen to whatever is going on for you without any judgments. We do not offer advice or tell you what you should be doing differently but by listening and respecting you as a young person allows you to explore your feelings. It will help you think about things in a different way and when you start thinking differently you start feeling differently and you start feeling better and when you feel better you’re stronger and things won’t get you down so much.

I am worried that you will tell other people about what we talked about – will you?

No, because what you talk about in our sessions together is confidential, just between the two of us. In our first session together we will both talk through and sign a confidentiality agreement. The only time when we as your counsellor would have to talk to someone about what we discussed is if we felt you or others were at risk of harm but we would always discuss this with you first.

How long will counselling last?

There's no fixed number of sessions that you will need. Each of you is unique and we will review regularly together to make sure you are getting out of counselling what you were hoping for and how many more sessions you might need but even then it’s not fixed in stone. You will always be the one making the decision. Each session will last up to 50 minutes.

Where and when will counselling take place?

We offer sessions in Northwich, Cheshire from our accessible and discreet private counselling room. We also provide the option, by agreement, to offer counselling appointments at an alternate location.

How will I know if counselling is right for me?

Get in contact with us via phone or email and ask us any questions and we can take it from there. If you would rather your parent or carer contacted us that is okay too.
